MARITIME COMMUNICATION & SAFETY

Protecting Ships, Passengers & Crew

In response to the deadly October 2000 attack on the USS Cole, Genasys created the acoustic hailing device (AHD) market by developing and launching is proprietary LRAD technology and systems.

Broadcasting highly intelligible voice communications and warning tones with focused acoustic output, LRAD systems determine the intent of vessels not responding to radio calls and enlarge vessel standoff zones beyond 3,000 meters.

Navy
Twenty five naval forces throughout the world have equipped their fleets with LRAD systems as an essential component of their escalation of force (EOF) protocols. In uncertain situations, the EOF is increasingly initiated through hails and warnings broadcast by LRAD systems to potential threats and intruders.

LRAD gives captains more time and distance to determine intent and distinguish between intruders, terrorist threats, fishing boats or commercial ships, and respond appropriately.

LRAD’s broadcast range exceeds the CINCLANTFLT Naval Vessel Protection Zone for standoff distances for ships pier side, at anchor or in restricted waters. LRAD’s unmatched acoustic performance is also used to conduct interdictions at sea, for UNREPS, and other naval duties.

Coast Guard
Coast Guard services are experiencing increasing territorial water incursions and homeland security threats. LRAD’s attention-commanding voice broadcasts and warning tones enable coastal defense personnel to determine the intent of vessels not responding to radio calls and enforce marine and littoral zone regulations.

During suspect boat interceptions, LRAD systems ensure the Coast Guard’s commands and instructions are clearly heard and understood over engine, wind and background noise.

Naval Bases
The U.S. military employs LRAD-RX systems for perimeter security and enforcement of exclusion zones around certain naval bases including the Bahrain Naval Base pier.

Commercial Ships / Large Yachts
Protecting ships, passengers and crew against security threats requires a tested and proven shipboard protection protocol that includes LRAD.. Commercial vessels have successfully deployed LRAD many times beginning with the Seabourn Spirit off the coast of Somalia in 2005.

LRAD extends a ship’s security perimeter and provides captain and crew the critical capability of determining a threat’s intent at distance, creating more time to issue distress calls and initiate countermeasures if necessary. In most confrontations, LRAD voice and warning tone broadcasts cause attackers to abort and seek out less prepared targets.

Ports
The Ports of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ras Laffan, Qatar and Aqaba, Jordan installed advanced security systems featuring the LRAD-RX to broadcast multilingual hails and warnings to inbound ships not responding to radio calls. The LRAD-RX reduces false alarms and port security response times associated with confirming or denying port entry.
