FY25 JAG Funding Announced. Public Safety Agencies Should Act Now.

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced Fiscal Year 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Formula funding. This funding supports state and local public safety agencies investing in technology, equipment, training, and operational improvements. With federal deadlines approaching fast, agencies should begin preparing immediately.

JAG is a formula based program. Funding is first allocated to states and qualifying local jurisdictions. From there, states will open competitive JAG grant cycles for counties, municipalities, and eligible agencies in the coming weeks. Agencies planning investments in emergency communications, mass notification, and public safety response technology should be preparing now to stay competitive.

STATE FORMULA GRANTS

  • JustGrants deadline is APRIL 14, 2026
  • Total funding available is $199,222,278
  • Period of performance is 48 months

LOCAL FORMULA GRANTS

  • Grants.gov deadline is APRIL 21, 2026
  • JustGrants deadline is APRIL 28, 2026
  • Total funding available is $96,384,585
  • Period of performance is 48 months

Local jurisdictions receiving direct allocations can already view their funding amounts. States will use their formula awards to fund competitive grants for agencies statewide.

Combating Violent Crime

  • Addressing violent crime, gangs, trafficking networks, and illegal drug activity
  • Supporting responses to human trafficking and exploitation
  • Deploying or enhancing UAS or counter‑UAS technologies

Immigration Enforcement

  • Supporting partnerships with federal agencies
  • Enhancing intelligence sharing and joint task force operations

Safe Communities

  • Improving quality-of-life enforcement and addressing nuisance crime
  • Supporting victim services and behavioral health response programs
  • Expanding coordinated response capabilities for complex incidents

Safe Houses of Worship

  • Protecting religious institutions and faith-based schools
  • Strengthening coordination between law enforcement and community organizations
