LRAD innovated acoustic hailing devices (AHDs) in response to the deadly October 2000 attack on the USS Cole. While equipped with an arsenal of lethal force, the sailors on the U.S. destroyer had no way to determine the intent of the suicide mission bent on destroying them until it was too late.
Every U.S. Navy surface combatant, 31 international Naval forces, and many superyachts, cruise liners, and commercial maritime ships deploy LRAD systems to hail and warn, alert and notify, determine intent, establish large standoff zones, resolve uncertain situations, initiate and scale EOF, and save lives.
