Chicago PD Use LRAD for NATO 2012 Crowd Communication

The city of Chicago pays out more than $11 million to settle a lawsuit with protesters arrested at a 2003 anti-war march. The lawsuit cited a breakdown in communication resulting in the police failing to give clear orders to protesters. To prevent this from happening at the NATO 2012 Summit and at future protests, Chicago PD procure LRAD systems. “We’re able to broadcast messages over a great distance that are clearly understood. There’s no miscommunication and it’s more effective than trying to utilize a bullhorn.” (Courtesy of WLS)
